WinGD Ltd. has secured the world’s first orders for ethanol-fuelled two-stroke engines for ocean-going vessels.
The first ethanol-fuelled X-DF-M/E engines will power two 325,000 DWT Newcastlemax ore carriers to be built for Shandong Shipping Corporation and operated under long-term charter for Vale.
The milestone reflects growing industry confidence in ethanol as a practical marine fuel option, supported by increasing fuel availability, developing infrastructure, and the need for scalable pathways to lower-emission shipping.
Building on WinGD’s established methanol engine concept, the ethanol-optimised X-DF-M/E platform further expands fuel flexibility across WinGD’s two-stroke portfolio, alongside LNG and ammonia solutions, helping owners align propulsion choices with operational and long-term decarbonisation strategies.

This year’s International Maritime Organization's International Day for Women in Maritime was an opportunity to strengthen connections across our global teams. At our global offices we took time to gather, fostering old and new connections.
As WinGD grows globally, the number of women across WinGD has noticeably grown too - across all departments, teams and offices. It’s a dynamic community which is intentionally inclusive, supportive and strong. By taking time to get together outside of the busyness of the day-to-day, we learn more about each other’s journey, background and future aspirations. Sharing experiences, both professional and personal, helps create a culture where people feel supported, encouraged and connected.
These conversations and connections extend far beyond a single day. It’s an intentional community everyday, creating space for connection, mentorship and friendship. By investing in this community we add energy, perspectives and insights that help build thriving teams across our organisation.

Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston last week brought together stakeholders from across the maritime value chain to discuss the technologies and strategies shaping the future of shipping.
As part of the programme, WinGD Ltd.’s Carmelo Cartalemi joined the technology panel at the Lloyd's Register Global LNG Forum, where discussions focused heavily on methane slip.
From the four-stroke “bad boys” to the latest generation of two-stroke concepts, the progress being made to reduce methane slip is significant. Combined with ongoing advances in fuel efficiency, today’s LNG-fuelled engines will continue to play an important role in supporting the industry’s energy transition in the years ahead.
🤝Innovation in low-carbon technologies was also firmly in focus throughout the week. One message was clear: clean-fuel technologies are advancing ahead of fuel availability and demand. This creates further opportunity for development, refinement and collaboration as infrastructure and adoption continue to grow.
